Church of Santa Maria Delle Grazie

Ecclesiastical itinerary of the Phlegraean Fields

The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is the oldest parish of the diocese of Pozzuoli, it is located in the area of the current Piazza della Repubblica. It was built in the XNUMXth century and in ancient times it had jurisdiction over a vast territory, which included: Pozzuoli, Agnano, Bacoli, Bagnoli, Licola, Miseno and Monte di Procida.

Although the church had undergone several embellishment and / or renovation works over the years, in the early 1800s it was necessary to demolish it due to the continuous corrosion of the sea waters that reached it in the winter months. Later it was rebuilt and the architect Achille Catalano was entrusted with it, who briefly completed the work.

Further restorations and restorations were carried out following the bradyseism and consequent earthquakes, of the most recent 70s and 80s.
